Day 01

Goodbye SG .. Welcome MY.

From the Causeway, which was with very minimal held-up, considering the time, plus the fact that our vehicle was like totally empty, we stopped by the usual port where we changed the currency. I do not know the name of this place, but we usually got to this place whenever we were there to change the currency.

The rate was RM228 for S$100. We changed RM200. Figured we would not need much, as we had our credit cards.

We drove on. Came to Segamat. And came face to face with a giant durian. A good thing that both Hubs and me are not durian-eaters, else we'll be stocking the car with plenty of those. Imagine the smell that the car rental guys would encounter at the end of the trip!

We snapped a shot and MMS it to Ibu Ros, who replied: WAH! Bestnye! NAK! Bawak balik!

Thank goodness it was not an option for us!

We stretched our leggies a bit and snapped some photos with the Hyundai Matrix Revo. This was our second rented Matrix but the first with my favorite colour.

The Groom

As you would have noticed, the red car with me at the side had a '95' on it. This is in dedication to my youngest son, Pau2, who is head over heels in love with Lightning McQueen, the star of CARS

The one that Hubs leaned on had a 'counter' on the windscreen. And yes, it is still ticking! It was magic car alright!

We drove till we reached Kuantan. Oh my, what a very long drive. We went through routes less travelled, in order to be more adventurous.

The Hogger

We took on a two-way lane, and if you have had experience driving this route, you will know that motorists tend to overtake the slower vehicles, often putting them in the path of the opposite traffic.

At one point of time, we were trailing behind a mega huge bus, which was surprisingly pretty fast (for a bus that size). It was pitch dark. The roads there were not brightly lit as here in SG, and you would have to depend heavily on your vehicle lights. Anyways, we trailed the bus and at many points, we overtook slower vehicles, using the bus as our shield.

However, there was once, we were overtaking, with the bus looming in front of us. As the bus overtook and swerved into the left lane, we followed suit. At that precise moment, I noticed that Hubs, who was driving, suddenly jerking forward and pressing down the accelerator. He immediately swerved to the left, and as he did so, we saw the glaring lights of another vehicle zooming past us in the opposite lane.

What a very close shave! I could not talk for a few minutes after that. Thank goodness, Hubs was very calm.

We had dinner at one of the stopovers. I had some noodle soup which was very bland. I had to spice it a bit with some chilies.

Upon reaching Kuantan, it was pretty late. We stumbled into Citiview Hotel and luckily, there was an available room, at RM145 per night.
